Rivers of War: Snippet Seventy Three

Lucille and I are leaving tomorrow for Nevada, to visit my mother and sister, and we'll be gone for almost a week. So I'm going to post all the remaining snippets today. I was planning to stop with Monday's snippets -- which would mean four last snippets -- since the book comes out officially on Tuesday, May 17. But after looking over the manuscript, I think I'll add a fifth snippet to be the final one. I think it makes... a good place to end.

    I hope those of you who have been following and enjoying this story will buy the book, come next week. Just so you know, I've snippetted approximately 60% of the novel. Maybe a little more. What's left are a couple of closing chapters in the Washington DC portion of the novel, and the fifth and last part of the book. That last part is the longest -- a good one-third of the entire novel -- and centers on the Battle of New Orleans.
