James H. Schmitzs The Witches of Karres is scheduled to come out in July [2004], with the sequel that I wrote with Misty Lackey and Dave Freer The Wizard of Karres coming out the next month. Since the sequel continues directly on with the story where Schmitz left it, I realized that I needed to snippet the entirety of The Witches of Karres before I can start snippeting the sequel.
For those of you not familiar with it, Schmitzs The Witches of Karres was published in 1966 and was a finalist for the Hugo award in 1967 where it lost out to Heinleins The Moon is a Harsh Mistress. It is considered by many people, including me, to be one of the real classics of SF, and a book which is in many ways quite unique in the genre.
