1634: The Bavarian Crisis: Chapter Twenty Four

    Ingoldstadt siege continuing.

Upper Palatinate has gotten the news about what happened in Freising (see Zincgref and the publicity pamphlet, above).

Now basically blaming Maximilian for the kidnapping since Mary and Veronica are in his hands (Leuchtenberg involvement or no Leuchtenberg involvement), Duke Ernst and Banér ramp up the siege of Ingolstadt a notch. Or several.

Does Banér demand or request reinforcements? Can/does GA supply them? We know from a reference to 1633 that he sent at least one regiment to Franconia to avoid demobilizing it onto an unprepared citizenry.

[NOTE TO ERIC: MIKE SPEHAR’S VIEW OF INGOLSTADT WAS THAT IF IT WAS UP TO HIM AND HE HAD THE RESOURCES, HE WOULD SIMPLY BOMB THE PLACE FLAT. OBVIOUSLY, HE DOESN’T HAVE THE RESOURCES. HOWEVER, IF IT WOULD BE POSSIBLE FOR GRANTVILLE TO COME UP WITH SOME KIND OF LITTLE TWEAK THAT WOULD GIVE Banér’S FORCES AN EDGE, IT MIGHT NOT COME AMISS.]

What is the impact of the Ingolstadt action on the Baltic War actions, etc.

I’ve moved this chapter here because it can function as a transition, with Banér and Ernst both looking back to the prior set of chapters and commenting on plans that will affect the next set - especially what they will be doing around Ingolstadt by the time the escapees get back to the Danube (see following chapters).
